Buraydah's huge date market, then the Al-Bassam Heritage House in Unaizah.

Al-Qassim is the date basket of Saudi Arabia. Day one visits the Buraydah date market, one of the largest in the world, especially lively during the harvest season around August to October. Day two goes to Unaizah and the Al-Bassam Heritage House, a restored traditional mud-brick home. October to March is the most comfortable time to visit.

Buraydah Date Market

Buraydah in Al-Qassim sits in the middle of Saudi Arabia's date country, and its market is the largest date market in the world. In the harvest season from August to October, pickup trucks loaded with dates queue from early morning and auctioneers sell lot after lot in the open yards. Around 45,000 tonnes change hands in a season, with Sukkari dates from Qassim among the most prized. The annual Buraydah Date Festival turns the trade into a public event with displays, competitions and food stalls. Come early in the morning during harvest to see the auctions at their busiest.
