Takhteshwar is a white marble Shiva temple on a small hill in the middle of Bhavnagar. It was built in 1893 by Maharaja Takhtsinhji, after whom it is named. The pillared pavilion and its shikhara are reached by a flight of steps, and the terrace gives a panoramic view over the city towards the Gulf of Khambhat. Palitana Temples

The Palitana temples cover the summit of Shatrunjaya hill and form one of the holiest pilgrimage sites of Jainism. Hundreds of marble shrines, built and rebuilt over many centuries, are grouped in walled enclosures called tuks, with the main temple dedicated to Adinath. Pilgrims climb more than 3,000 steps to reach them. No one stays on the hill overnight, and the climb is best started at dawn.

The image was installed in the 19th century by Gopalanand Swami, a senior disciple of Swaminarayan. Devotees believe the deity relieves troubles and afflictions, and Saturdays draw especially large crowds. The temple has an ornate carved gateway and large facilities for pilgrims.
