Asan Barrage

Asan Barrage, at the confluence of the Asan River and the Eastern Yamuna Canal near the Himachal border, created a wetland that became Uttarakhand's first Ramsar site. From October to March it hosts thousands of migratory waterfowl, including ruddy shelduck, red-crested pochard and bar-headed geese. A birdwatching trail runs along the embankment, and boating is available.

Kalsi Ashoka Rock Edict

At Kalsi, near the meeting of the Yamuna and the Tons, a large quartz boulder carries the fourteen major rock edicts of Emperor Ashoka, inscribed in the 3rd century BCE in the Brahmi script and Prakrit language. It is the only place in northern India where the full set survives. The rock also bears the outline of an elephant. A small domed shelter built by the Archaeological Survey protects it.

Lakhamandal Temple

Lakhamandal is an ancient temple complex in the Yamuna valley in the Jaunsar-Bawar region. The main Shiva temple, in the northern Nagara style, dates from around the 12th century, and many older sculptures and lingas have been found around it; one polished linga reflects the face of anyone who pours water on it. Local legend identifies the place with the house of lac from the Mahabharata.
