The Temples of Bali: Taman Ayun, Tanah Lot, Ulun Danu, Tirta Empul, Besakih and Uluwatu

5 DAYS 9 places by WaTrips

Bali's great temples in five days: Taman Ayun, Tanah Lot, Ulun Danu Beratan, Saraswati, Tirta Empul, Gunung Kawi, Besakih, Lempuyang and Uluwatu.

Bali has more temples than houses, it's said, and a few stand out. Begin at the royal temple of Taman Ayun and watch the sunset at Tanah Lot on its sea rock. Visit Ulun Danu Beratan on its mountain lake, then Ubud's lotus-pond temple of Saraswati, the purification pools of Tirta Empul and the cliff shrines of Gunung Kawi. Climb to Besakih, the mother temple on Mount Agung, and Lempuyang's famous gate, and end at Uluwatu on its cliff. Wear a sarong and sash, which are lent at most temples; women shouldn't enter during their period.
