Australia's Red Centre and Kakadu: Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon and Kakadu

5 DAYS 4 places by WaTrips

Uluru at sunset and sunrise, Kata Tjuta's Valley of the Winds, the Kings Canyon rim walk and Kakadu's rock art and wetlands.

The Red Centre is the spiritual heart of Australia. Watch Uluru change colour at sunset and sunrise, walk the base and learn its Anangu stories, then hike through Kata Tjuta's Valley of the Winds. Do the Kings Canyon rim walk early, before the heat. Then fly north to Darwin and drive into Kakadu, a vast national park with ancient Aboriginal rock art, wetlands full of birds and crocodiles. April to September is cooler; Kakadu's dry season is May to October.

Uluru

Uluru is a massive sandstone monolith rising about 348 metres above the desert in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Sacred to the Anangu people, its traditional owners, it changes colour dramatically at sunrise and sunset. Climbing has been banned since 2019, but the 10 km base walk reveals rock art, waterholes and caves.
