Perth and Western Australia: Kings Park, Rottnest's Quokkas, the Pinnacles and Wave Rock

4 DAYS 5 places by WaTrips

Kings Park, Cottesloe Beach, Rottnest Island, the Pinnacles Desert and Wave Rock.

Perth is sunny and relaxed, with big landscapes nearby. Start in Kings Park above the city and swim at Cottesloe Beach at sunset. Ferry to Rottnest Island to cycle between bays and meet the smiling quokkas. Drive north to the Pinnacles Desert, thousands of limestone spires in yellow sand, and east to Wave Rock, a granite cliff shaped like a breaking wave. Spring (September–November) brings wildflowers.

Kings Park

Kings Park is one of the largest inner-city parks in the world, covering about 400 hectares on Mount Eliza overlooking Perth. Much of it is native bushland, and it includes the Western Australian Botanic Garden and State War Memorial. Its lookouts offer panoramic views over the Swan River and the city skyline.

The Pinnacles

The Pinnacles are thousands of limestone pillars rising from the yellow sands of Nambung National Park, about 200 km north of Perth. Some stand up to 3.5 metres tall and were formed over tens of thousands of years. A scenic drive and walking trails wind among them, and the site is especially striking at sunset.
