3 DAYS 9 places by WaTrips

The Golden Gate Bridge, the Palace of Fine Arts, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, Lombard Street, Coit Tower, Chinatown, the Painted Ladies and Muir Woods.

San Francisco is small, hilly and full of views. Walk or cycle across the Golden Gate Bridge, see the Palace of Fine Arts and the sea lions at Fisherman's Wharf. Take the ferry to Alcatraz (book weeks ahead), ride a cable car to Lombard Street, climb to Coit Tower and explore Chinatown. Finish with the Painted Ladies at Alamo Square and the giant redwoods of Muir Woods across the bay. Bring layers; summer fog keeps it cool.

Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937 and spans the strait connecting San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean. Its 1,280-metre main span was the world's longest at the time, and its International Orange colour makes it stand out in the fog. Visitors walk or cycle across, with classic views from Battery Spencer and Fort Point.
