8 DAYS 11 places by WaTrips

Mykonos and Delos, Naxos and the Portara, Santorini's Oia, Fira and Akrotiri, Milos's Sarakiniko and Rhodes's old town and Lindos.

Island-hopping is the essence of Greece. Start on Mykonos with its windmills and Little Venice, and take the boat to sacred Delos. Visit Naxos and its giant marble doorway, then Santorini's caldera villages and Bronze Age Akrotiri. Swim among the white moon-like rocks of Sarakiniko on Milos, and finish on Rhodes in the medieval knights' old town and the acropolis of Lindos above the sea. Ferries are frequent from May to October; book ahead in July and August.

Akrotiri

Akrotiri is a Bronze Age settlement on Santorini, buried by a huge volcanic eruption around 1600 BC. The ash preserved multi-storey houses, streets, pottery and colourful wall paintings. It is sometimes linked with the legend of Atlantis. The site is protected under a large modern roof, and walkways lead through the streets.

Lindos Acropolis

The Acropolis of Lindos stands on a rock about 116 metres above the sea on the island of Rhodes. It holds the Temple of Athena Lindia from the 4th century BC, a Hellenistic stoa and a castle of the Knights of Saint John. Below, the white village of Lindos and its bays are very picturesque.
