In a green valley among forested hills, a tall statue of Kumram Bheem stands over the memorial grounds. For the Adivasi people of this region, coming here is a pilgrimage.
Kumram Bheem
Kumram Bheem was a Gond leader who fought for tribal rights under the call of 'Jal, Jangal, Zameen': water, forest and land. In 1940 he and his companions were killed at Jodeghat. Today the village is the site of a memorial complex honouring him and the tribal chiefs who fought for those rights.
The museum
The Kumuram Bheem Tribal Museum, also called the Asifabad Museum, stands in Jodeghat village of Kerameri mandal, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. It was opened on 16 October 2016 by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. The complex includes the museum, a memorial with a large statue of Kumram Bheem and the Smriti Vanam garden. Exhibits and paintings show tribal life in the old Adilabad district.
