Krishna River Trail in 4 Days: Nagarjuna Sagar, Srisailam and Alampur

4 DAYS 6 places by WaTrips

Nagarjuna Sagar dam, the Nallamala forest to Mallela Theertham and Srisailam, Wanaparthy's palace, Alampur's ancient temples and Pillalamarri.

Follow the Krishna river through dams, forest and some of the oldest temples in South India. Start at Nagarjuna Sagar, one of the largest masonry dams in the world; when the boats run, the island museum at Nagarjunakonda holds relics of an ancient Buddhist city. Day two crosses the Nallamala forest, part of a tiger reserve, to Mallela Theertham waterfall and then Srisailam, with its Mallikarjuna temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The forest road closes at night, so plan to arrive in daylight. Day three heads west to Wanaparthy's palace and Alampur, where early Chalukya temples stand where the Tungabhadra meets the Krishna. The trip ends under the giant banyan at Pillalamarri before Hyderabad.
