The Konkan Coast in 4 Days: Sea Forts from Alibag to Sindhudurg

4 DAYS 7 places by WaTrips

Kolaba and Murud-Janjira, Raigad Fort, Ganpatipule and Ratnadurg, then Sindhudurg and Tarkarli.

The Konkan coast is lined with sea forts, and this route rides south past the best of them. Day one visits Kolaba Fort off Alibag, which you can walk to at low tide, and Murud-Janjira, the island fortress never taken by force. Day two climbs Raigad, Shivaji's capital, by ropeway or steps. Day three is the beach temple at Ganpatipule and Ratnadurg fort above Ratnagiri. Day four takes a boat to Sindhudurg, built by Shivaji on an island, and ends on Tarkarli beach. October to March is best; boats to the sea forts stop in the monsoon.
